Onslow County

Onslow County in Eastern North Carolina is perhaps best known as home to Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base, a 151,000-acre U.S. Marine Corps training facility located in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Its presence there since 1941 is almost solely responsible for the Onslow Counties real estate  growth. Military presence aside, Jacksonville is the county seat, and is the hub for area shopping, dining, and lively night life.

In addition to bustling Jacksonville NC, Onslow County towns include North Topsail Beach and Sneads Ferry. North Topsail is a popular beach community that has experienced impressive real estate growth over the past 10 years. It is part of the NC barrier island of Topsail with its 26 miles of pristine beaches, tidal creeks and maritime forests. Rich in coastal wildlife and famed for its oyster beds, the island is also home to the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue center. Topsail is one of the least populated beaches along the North Carolina coast and is in high demand during the warmer months.

Across the bridge from North Topsail is Sneads Ferry, a quiet, close-knit fishing village. It has gained popularity due to its easy access to Topsail beaches and the rear gate to Camp Lejenue but it has not lost its roots. Here you will still find an active waterfront where shrimpers haul in almost 400 tons a year and where this tradition is celebrated at the annual Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival.

Recreation revolves around the water environment with fishing, boating, paddling, surfing, beach-combing and other popular coastal activities. The area's mild climate means you can enjoy these activities all year.
