HALLOWEEN – OCTOBER 31st

Hello, neighbors.
Thank you to everyone who filled out our survey concerning the gates and non-resident trick-or- treaters on Halloween. It is impossible to make everyone happy and these surveys allow us to gauge the preference of the majority of the neighborhood. 96 of 176 respondents (19 had no preference) preferred to leave the gates open to allow non-resident trick-or-treaters into our neighborhood.
The gates will remain open until 7pm on 31Oct. Quite a few respondents expressed a desire to keep the gates open even later to allow trick-or-treating after dark.  Sunset is at 6:17 pm.   7 pm gate closure will allow non-resident trick-or-treaters into the neighborhood to find parking before it’s completely dark and remain in the neighborhood for prime trick-or-treating hours.
We apologize for forgetting to include trick-or-treating hours in the survey; the board has set trick-or-treating hours as 5-9 pm. Obviously if you are not home yet, there is no one to answer the door for the young kids whose parents prefer them walking in the street when it is still light out. If you don’t want your doorbell rung after a certain time or at all, we recommend turning your outside lights off and/or hanging a sign on your door.
We will post signs at the entrances with hours, encouraging trick-or-treaters to park, staying off the grass, and walk through the neighborhood. The board will not make further coordination because that could get ridiculous trying to exert that much control. Small areas of the neighborhood are encouraged to coordinate among themselves for any further ideas in their specific area.
